"It’s so important to make Canadian films because the Americans will leave anytime they want and then what will we have to show for ourselves. I totally support what you’re doing. It’s completely needed. When you start from the ground up, there’s only one way to go. It’s important to bang the first nail in."

The Rehearsed Readings is a new project at the Centre formed in the summer of 2008. The Centre, with a club of experienced actors, will read best loved plays and new Canadian work for an audience. Donations made at the readings will go to the Centre. A number of our best actors expressed an interest in starting an actor’s tradition of having play readings so they could re-visit their favourite plays and roles and give audiences the pure experience of listening to a playwright’s words and the actor’s voice. For all to be part of the excitement created by actor’s exploring and discovering their roles and the play at the beginning stage of rehearsal.

The Centre is a not-for-profit community arts centre having served the community for six years. All are welcome to participate in this project.

It’s your space. Take your place.

Screenwriters Group

People gathered every Sunday night over August and September to develop their own screenplays.

Everyone appreciated having the opportunity to meet and share common experiences and to have a format where they would write new pages weekly.

There are plans to continue the writing work at the Centre this winter.
The Centre for the Art has always been interested in writing especially as it has been the source for film, television and theatre.
