Janet Wright
/We remember.
A consummate actor. An actor’s actor. Janet had a long career that included ``The Perfect Storm,'' opposite George Clooney and Mark Wahlberg. Affiliated with the Vancouver Arts Club Theater since the early 1970s, and directed for many major theatre companies across Canada, including productions at Ontario's Stratford Festival. She was a member of the Stratford company for seven seasons and made her debut alongside her sisters in the 1991 production of ``Les Belles Soeurs.'' She was a member of the schools touring company from the Calgary Allied Arts Centre and I joined that company as my first professional acting job. Janet was a perfect cast member to have – always funny, direct, unpretentious, and truthful to the bone. She won the best actress Genie Award in 1992 for ``Bordertown Cafe,'' and won the best supporting actress in a dramatic program or miniseries award in 2003 for ``Betrayed.'' She is probably best known for her role Emma Leroy on Corner Gas. All of us who knew her and lucky enough to work with her miss her so dearly.
